![]() There is tangible progress that isn't just "moar damage". In D2, there's always a next thing to aim for, a specific problem to solve, and it's always a hard task, but not insurmountable. When you know alvl, ilvl, mlvl, which whites to pick up to socket, what grey items are money, fcr break points, the best way to get a Lum, etc. ![]() The amount of satisfaction you get when you actually learn how to play the game, though. I ended up facing Diablo with a level 29 Necro with a Pala mace and 5 in Teeth. I remember when I first started playing it, and there was next to nothing online to help out. Getting a new item is never satisfying, and there is zero challenge nor any incentive to learn how the game works under the hood. You're just trying to pump a small set of numbers, looking for cookie cutter items with extraordinarily boring modifiers. There's a reason D3 is about as much fun as watching paint dry. People scream for "QoL improvements", but are in fact confusing "improvements" with bad game design (for the most part.) It being a minimalistic arena shooter doesn't mean later games have surpassed it in any way.ĭiablo 2 still has no equal in ARPGs, though. Still one of the very best multiplayer FPS games in its genre. I would recommend the original Quake to anyone, though. It spawned CTF, CS (arguably, with Action Quake), the realistic WWI/II shooter, etc. Quake 2 was only ever good because of mods.
